Pet wellness operations specialist bringing Fortune 500 standards of care to dogs in Washington D.C.

The Challenge

Steve Shira spent twenty years leading USAID programs across 63 countries, managing teams of over 100 people, and overseeing $900 million in economic development contracts. Then the government laid him off. He found himself walking dogs in D.C., building something quietly extraordinary. He had five-star reviews, 100 percent consultation-to-client conversion, and a standard of care so far beyond dog walking that clients trusted him with their pets more than they trusted family members. None of it was visible in his brand. The market saw a dog walker charging $35 a walk. His website generated zero leads. His only clients came from Rover, a platform that positioned him as a commodity, and word of mouth. He was working seven days a week and could not pay himself a salary.

The Work

The Brand Awakening session surfaced the positioning breakthrough in Steve's own words: we do not do dog walks. We sell peace of mind. From that single sentence, Mindsy named the category Steve was uniquely qualified to own: pet wellness operations specialist, the professional layer between veterinarians and trainers that no competitor was claiming. The target audience was defined as Anxious Achievers: dual-income, high-standard households in D.C., Bethesda, and Arlington who treat their pets as family and have been burned by inconsistent experiences elsewhere. Every layer of the brand was then built from the inside out, including strategy, messaging architecture, visual identity, a six-page WordPress website built to filter rather than cast, brand guidelines, photography art direction, and a phased scale plan built around membership tiers and veterinary partnerships.
